The article presents data on dynamics of the health criteria for school-age children in the city of Kazan, which is characterized by an increase in prevalence of diseases, as well as deterioration in health indicators based on the results of preventive examinations. The reasons include intraschool factors and factors related to the child’s stay in the family. The biggest problem in the provision of primary health care to children in schools is the shortage of personnel — the staffing level is: 65% doctors, 65.7% nurses. A number of targeted programs are being implemented in schools in Kazan, aimed at preventing the morbidity of schoolchildren, creating motivation of schoolchildren for a healthy lifestyle. The section of health-saving activity is included in the development program of each educational institution. Nowadays the schools in Kazan have the status of “Health Promotion Schools”: 25 schools have the gold level, 71 schools – silver, and 65 — bronze.
