Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease occurring predominantly in childhood. However, in the recent years there is an increase of chickenpox in adults and teenagers all around the world, who have a higher risk of developing severe infections, complications and deaths. Viral pneumonia is a rare but severe complication of chickenpox, which is mainly characteristic of immunodeficient patients and pregnant women. The article presents a clinical case of chickenpox pneumonia in an immunocompetent adult patient.
