Transplantation of fecal microbiota is an innovative method of intestinal biotic community correction by introducing the donor’s dilute fecal microbiota into the lumen of the recipient’s gut. According to foreign studies, this method is quite effective in treatment of a wide range of diseases with intestinal biocenosis disorders in pathogenesis, and is safe, because it does not entail serious complications.
The article presents two observations of this method clinical application. In the first observation, the indication for microbiota transplantation was the antibiotic-associated diarrhea after surgical operation. In the second case, after total colectomy in a patient with ulcerative colitis, the procedure was carried out in order to relieve the inflammation in the rectal stump. The donors were relatives of the recipients. In both cases, the use of this method contributed to the positive dynamics of clinical symptoms and laboratory findings, the patients were discharged in satisfactory condition several days after the transplantation.
The encouraging results of the pilot study allow considering transplantation of fecal microbiota as a prospective method that expands the arsenal of therapeutic actions in patients with different diseases of colon and rectum when the pathological process is associated with violation of intestinal biocenosis.
Key words: intestinal dysbiosis, fecal microbiota transplantation, pilot study.
