The article presents the results of a study of toxic and potentially toxic elements in hair of children with heart arrhythmias and their healthy peers. The study involved 255 children, aged from 6 to 17 years: 198 children (107 boys and 91 girls) with various heart arrhythmias (ventricular and supraventricular premature beats, sick sinus syndrome, chronic nonparoxysmal tachycardia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrioventricular block of II and III degree) and 57 healthy children (31 boys and 26 girls). All the patients with heart arrhythmias had the excess of permissible concentration of toxic and potentially toxic chemical elements that reliably distinguished from the health control rates (84.3±2.6% and 29.8±6.1%, р<0,001). The strong correlation was proved between the content of toxic elements and the complexity of congenital heart disease (r=0.92), which occurred in 49.0% of children with heart arrhythmias, the child’s age (r=0.87), as well as mother smoking during pregnancy and the excess of the permissible lead (r=0.92) and cadmium (r=0.87) content in the child’s body. The increased level of potentially toxic elements (strontium, nickel, lithium, stibium, arsenic) in hair was detected in 91 (46.0±3.5%) patients with HRD, which is statistically significantly higher than in healthy peers (21.1±5.4%, р<0.01).These data suggest that the detection of toxic and potentially toxic elements could be involved in the genesis of the heart arrhythmias in children, their preservation and progression, including after successfully operated congenital heart disorder.

Key words: children, heart arrhythmias, toxic and potentially toxic microelements.
