The role of vitamin D provision in risk formation and progression of mastopathy in women

To reveal the connection between vitamin D blood level, clinical presentation of the disease and features of hormone status f women with various forms of mastopathy, we have examined 72 women, 42 of them with diffuse and nodal forms and 30 healthy women as a control group. Examination included physical examination, ultrasound investigation of mammary glands and mammography. The initial level of vitamin D in blood serum was found. The content of estradiol, progesterone and prolactin in blood, as well as the level of vitamin D-binding protein, were measured by IFA technique. The reduction of vitamin D blood level was determined in 88.5% patients with various forms of mastopathy, the expressed deficit was found in 47.6% of the patients. The level of vitamin D blood level reduction correlated with the severity of clinical symptoms, changes in the mammary glands structure, according to ultrasound investigation, and higher levels of prolactin in patients compared to healthy women.
