Pathology of labor is one of the topical issues of modern obstetrics. The review presents the basic pathogenic mechanisms that underlie various abnormalities of uterine contractile activity. Etiological factors of labor weakness and hypertonic uterine dysfunction are analyzed. The effect of labor duration on perinatal outcomes article shown. The issues are discussed of accelerated or prolonged labor impact on the frequency of stillbirths, early neonatal morbidity and remote negative consequences to children’s health.
Key words: labor abnormalities, prolonged labor, accelerated labor, perinatal outcomes.
