The work is based on observations of 75 patients, who were divided into 2 groups. Patients of the 1st group with chronic suppurative maxillary sinusitis in the anamnesis (n=50) had an infundibulotomy with partial or complete resection of the uncus. Patients of the 2nd group (n=25) were operated for cysts of the maxillary sinuses with antrochoanal polyps. Patients of both groups were united by the fact that they had no uncus or its hypoplasia. Despite the performed surgical intervention, there were relapses. The authors, based on the experience of treating patients with diseases of the maxillary sinus, give recommendations for improving the surgical interventions and the treatment effectiveness. In order to restore the screening role of the uncus, 17 patients underwent surgery ― remodeling of the uncus. Bone substitute material “Rekost” was used for implantation. Remodeling of the uncus allowed restoring the screening function which bars the air exchange in the maxillary sinus.
Key words: uncus, maxillary sinus.
