The purpose is to evaluate the influence of the stage of malignant process on the patterns and mechanisms of systemic inflammatory response in patients with uterine corpus cancer.
Material and methods. Hematologic indices were determined in the blood of 108 patients with endometrioid cancer of the uterine corpus and 20 practically healthy women. Additionally, the mass of total adipose tissue, fat-free mass, and their ratio, as well as the ratio of sagittal diameter of the waist to the thigh, were investigated.
Results. The quantitative increase of hematologic indices was dependent on the stage of the malignant process. The rate of basic metabolism increased, indicating an increase in the body’s energy expenditure in response to tumor growth. This was due to an imbalance in energy expenditure, with an increase in the expenditure of fat mass and a disintegration of fat-free mass in patients.
Conclusion. The use of hematologic and anthropometric indices is recommended for the assessment of the systemic inflammatory response in patients with uterine corpus cancer, as well as for the development of pathogenetically justified concomitant therapy.
Key words: uterine corpus cancer, basic metabolism, hypermetabolism, hypercatabolism syndrome, total adipose and fat-free tissue weight.
