The article presents the analysis of the initial state of spatial contrast-sensitivity functions (CSF) for various frequencies in stationary weak and moderate myopia. The clinical material comprised 53 patients (87 eyes) from 18 to 35 years old; main group: weak and medium myopia with spherical equivalent from 2.0 to 6.0 D. The control group consisted of 11 healthy persons (22 eyes) with emmetropic refraction of comparable sex and age. We studied the values of spatial CSF in 3 ranges of spatial frequencies: low (0.3-1.0 cycle/deg), medium (1.0-10.0 cycl/deg) and high (10.0-30.0 cycle/deg.). In the study of low frequencies, a frequency of 1 cycle/degree was used; of medium frequencies ― 6 cycle/degree; of high frequencies ― 12 cycle/degree.
The spatial CSF values comparable with the control for all frequencies were observed in 21.8% of patients with myopia, who use correction with glasses. In 69% of eyes there was a decrease in spatial CSF values at high frequencies, or when combined with medium frequencies. Only 5 eyes showed a decrease in spatial CSF for low frequencies (5.7%). The decrease for all frequencies occurred in 8 eyes (9.2%).
Key words: spatial contrast-sensitivity functions, visocontrastometry, spherical equivalent of myopic refraction up to 6.0 D, myopic astigmatism up to 1.5 D.
