Purpose. To analyze the structure of the incidence of mental disorders among the employees of the internal affairs bodies in 2013–2018.
Materials and methods. Statistical data of medical organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the period from 2013 to 2018 were analyzed. The statistics comprised the employees of the Internal Affairs Departments (IAD) who applied for psychiatric care. The data were compared with the morbidity of the population of the Russian Federation. Statistical processing of the research results was carried out using the Pearson’s chi-squared test.
Results. It is shown that the prevalence of mental disorders among the IAD employees is on average 4,4 times lower than among the population of the Russian Federation, while the primary incidence of mental disorders of this cohort exceeds the incidence of the population of the Russian Federation by 1,3 times. Three thirds of the mental disorders are neurotic, stress-related and somatoform, which, with timely diagnosis and complex treatment, can be fully compensated. This could lead to the return of police officers to their duties, prevent early dismissal due to illness, and reduce the economic costs of training new employees.
Conclusion. Improvement of the psycho-prophylactic activities of the psychiatric service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is proposed.
Key words: internal affairs officers, borderline mental disorders, morbidity, nosological structure.
