Strategies of overcoming chronic pain (SOCP) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are designed to help patients to cope with their chronic pain in joints. Adaptive SOCP provide a higher level of adaptation, positive dynamics of the disease, faster recovery. Using maladaptive SOCP is usually associated with disease progression, decreasing of life quality and increasing of mental maladjustment. Formation of skills that will help patients to effectively overcome chronic pain is a promising direction for prevention and treatment of patients with RA.

Key words: rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pain, maladaptive strategies, strategies of overcoming chronic pain.
