A dynamic assessment of cognitive functions was carried out in 79 hypertensive patients in relation to cerebral perfusion reserve condition and velocity of passive transmembrane ion transport. The research evaluated the following factors: gender, age, level of arterial pressure, duration of arterial hypertension, cerebrovascular reactivity indicators (CVR) and level of passive transmembrane ion transport on the example of Na+-Li+ countertransport in erythrocyte membrane (NLCT). There was found a correlation between CVR, genetically determined level of NLCT velocity and indicators of cognitive functions in hypertension. The indicators CVR and NLTC may be used as predictors for the development and progression of vascular cognitive impairment.

Key words: arterial hypertension, cognitive impairment, cerebral perfusion, cerebrovascular reactivity, Na+-Li+ countertransport.
