  • Selection algorithm of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug in case of rheumatic diseases

    Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most used drugs by physicians of many specialties. In this article there is information on mechanism of action, modern classification of these drugs. Today, the risk factors for lesions of gastrointestinal tract, cardio-vascular system, kidneys when using NSAIDs are specified. The most frequent complications are gastrointestinal, which are reduced by usage of proton pump inhibitors, although extended and uncontrolled use of these drugs can also cause side effects. For an effective and safe usage of NSAIDs there must be applied a drug selection algorithm, which considers clinical characteristics and all risk factors and comorbidities. In accordance with current domestic and international recommendations there are clinical features of choosing NSAIDs in case of various rheumatologic diseases.
