The article presents the modern data about the vitamin D role in an organism – its bone and extra-skeletal effects. It is marked that the appearance of new conceptions about the broad influence of vitamin D on metabolism have led to the necessity to elaborate a National program for prevention and treatment of D hypovitaminosis in children and adolescents. The analysis and results presented in the article are the outcome of the work which has been carried out in regional centers of various federal regions within the frameworks of pharmacological-epidemiological research project RODNICHOK. The total of 832 children of the first three years of life have been monitored. In all children, the indicators of phosphor-calcium metabolism and provision with vitamin D by the 25(ОН)D level in blood serum were determined. In 60% of children, insufficiency and deficit of vitamin D were found. In children of the first, second, and especially third years of life, we observed the progressing decrease of 25(ОН)D level. In young children, it is impossible to achieve the adequate provision with vitamin D without peroral intake of cholecalciferol. Basing on the research results, the experts participating in elaboration of the National program proposed a scheme of D hypovitaminosis prevention in childrenin the Russian Federation with the use of 1000 МЕ — 1500 МЕ of cholecalciferol.
Key words: vitamin D, young children, deficit of vitamin D, D hypovitaminosis prevention.
