The article presents a literature review of the modern endotheliology. The role of the endothelium in the regulation of vascular tone is stated; the mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction are shown; the NO-dependent mechanisms of hypertension are discussed; the value of free-radical oxidation and antioxidant defense system is described in the development of endothelial dysfunction and hypertensionin children and adolescents.

Key words: arterial hypertension, children, adolescents, endothelial dysfunction, nitric oxide, endothelin.
