The authors analyzed data from foreign and Russian articles published over the past 10 years on the problems of hormonal balance in women with benign breast diseases (BBD), among which benign dysplasia is a proven independent risk factor for breast cancer (BC). The most important links in the pathogenesis of proliferative breast lesions in women of reproductive age include hormonal factors such as hyperestrogenism, hyperprolactinemia, insulin resistance, and vitamin D deficiency. Recent studies demonstrate the possibility of other hormonal systems — mineralcorticoid, glucocorticoid and androgen receptors in the development and progression of proliferative conditions in mammary glands. Assessing hormonal imbalance in women with breast pathology may be one of the key points in personalized prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Key words: benign breast diseases, risk factors, breast cancer, sex hormones, prolactin, vitamin D.
