Ultrasonography (USG) is one of the most dynamically developing diagnosntic techniques, which value is increasing in the field of emergency aid for patients with multiple trauma. The presented review reflects the history, basic principles and modern trends of using USG for diagnostics and intensive treatment of seriously injured patients with multiple trauma. Using USG in everyday practice serves not only as a diagnostic technique but also a reliable way to optimize the expenses, in spite of the common opinion of the high cost of the USG equipment.
Key words: ultrasonography, polytrauma, diagnostics, emergency.
