The purpose — to study the results of a three-year observation of children born with a weight of less than a thousand grams in the Center for Follow-up of premature babies.

Material and methods. Analysis of the health status of 97 children born with ELBW from the age of 1 to 3 years, of which 61 are children of the second and third years of life under regular monitoring.

Results. A high level of neurological and respiratory pathology of children was revealed, as well as a delay in physical development in the first year of life. At 2–3 years of life, severe neurological consequences persisted in 15% of children, frequent respiratory morbidity in 20%, and a decrease in physical development was recorded in every second child.

Conclusion. The data obtained confirm the need for post-neonatal monitoring of premature babies in order to minimize the disabling consequences through timely rehabilitation.

Key words: premature babies, extremely low body weight, follow-up.
