Introduction. Refractive surgery in patients who underwent operative treatment of retinal detachment is controversial, because retinal detachment is a risk factor for detachment relapse in further surgical treatment. A circular depression of the sclera or a scleral buckling can induce myopia and astigmatism, which requires some action for a complete rehabilitation of the patient.
Objective. To analyze a clinical case of a Relex Smile refractive operation in a patient after scleral buckle with myopic refraction.
Results. Under our supervision, there was a patient with a retinal detachment in the anamnesis (in 2011, a cirque was performed). The preoperative visual acuity at the time of examination on April 25, 2018 was OD / OS = 1.0 / 0.1sph-2.0cyl-2.5ax104 = 1.0. It was decided to perform a Relex Smile operation on the left eye, taking into account the patient’s desire to improve vision. The operation was carried out on 10 May 2018. The next day, the visual acuity of the left eye was 0.6. The patient was discharged with satisfactory functional results. Follow-up examinations are scheduled after 6 months.
Conclusion. The clinical case demonstrates that Relex Smile method is applicable in patients with operated retinal detachment in anamnesis. Improvement of working patients’ life quality after refractive surgery, as well as the desire of patients to improve the quality of sight without glasses and contact lenses, determine the prospects for the development of this area of scientific work.
Key words: refractive surgery, Relex Smile, retinal detachment, cirque, scleral buckle.
