This article reviews works devoted to the application of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) research. The features of brain bioelectric activity in persons with ASD are briefly discussed. Data about QEEG capacity to classify subjects with ASD from controls and to determine different subgroups of ASD are presented. The paper highlights the role of QEEG in the study of neurophysiology mechanisms of autism development and proving the epileptic nature of ASD, the “broken mirror” theory and the hypothesis of aberrant neural. It is highlighted also that the possibility of clinical application of the electroencephalography research in ASD are still limited due to the broad heterogeneity of the available data.
Key words: electroencephalography, quantitative EEG, autism spectrum disorders, autism.
