The article presents data about the connection between interval QT and sudden cardiac death in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with coronary artery disease. Particular attention is paid to the relation between the level of blood glucose and the prolongation of the QT interval. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia prolong QT interval, increasing the risk of fatal arrhythmias. The mechanism of this phenomenon is described. The question of a safe glycemia level in patients with type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease is discussed.

Key words: QT interval, ventricular arrhythmias, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes.
