Purpose. To establish the clinical neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological features of children with bronchial asthma.
Material and methods. The study involved 135 children aged from 6 to 12 years old with an established diagnosis of atopic dermatitis; the control group consisted of 90 healthy children of the same age. All children underwent clinical-anamnestic, neurological, psychopathological and neuropsychological studies.
Results. We discovered pathogenic factors affecting to central nervous system in the early stages of ontogenesis. The clinical dynamics of mental and neurological disorders in the group of children with bronchial asthma is presented, depending on the stages of neuropsychiatric response. All children with bronchial asthma who underwent neuropsychological research had a serious deficiency in most neuropsychological functions.
Conclusion. The dynamics of psychopathological disorders in children with bronchial asthma corresponds to the dynamics of residual cerebral organic insufficiency. The clinical picture of the main syndromes is determined by the current stage of the neuropsychic response. The revealed neuropsychological deficiency corresponded to two variants – with inhibition and fatigue (45%, n=108) and with hyperactivity and impulsivity (55%, n=108).
Key words: children, bronchial asthma, mental disorders, neuropsychology.
