Research objective: To analyze the frequency and structure of acute poisoning with psychotropic substances (PTS) among children and adolescents (7 to 15 y.o.) in the Chuvash Republic and to reveal the main risk factors.
Materials and methods: Clinical cases (register form No. 003) of 340 schoolchildren (7 to 15 y.o.) with acute poisoning with PTS were analyzed, for the period of 2009–2018. Traditional methods of extensive and intensive indicators were used for statistical processing of the data.
Results: The level of severe intoxications of schoolchildren with various PTS in Chuvasj Republic is high. Schoolchildren are often become addicted in the early age. Alcohol and toxic substances abuses are more common among boys, while drug intoxications are registered equally in boys and girls. The most frequent cause of severe intoxications is alcohol and its substitutes. Dimedrol is almost never used; neuroleptics, barbiturates, antidepressants, glue, organic solvents and oil products are rarely registered. In many cases the toxic substance cannot be identified. An alarming sign of the recent five years is the increased frequency of PTS intoxication while in the premises of an educational establishment. Schoolchildren with the shaped addiction have significant deviations in the family anamnesis, life anamnesis, and social anamnesis. Policemen, parents and teachers are poorly trained to recognize the signs of intoxication with vatious PTS.
Conclusions: the obligatory components of prevention program should be: methods of psychosocial correction, working with a child’s family aimed at reconstructing the main family functions, and providing the positive dynamics of family relations. It is expedient to establish a general coordinating center assisting the adolescents in a hard situation.
Key words: psychoactive substances, schoolchildren, structure, risk factors, prevention.
