The importance of vitreoretinal surgery as one of the complex branches of eye surgery is explained, its essence and indications to it are determined. The problem related to the lack of an official training program for vitreoretinal surgeons in Russia is highlighted. The main reasons for the feasibility of teaching vitreoretinal surgery are identified. The independent training of ophthalmologists for vitreoretinal interventions and its shortcomings was studied. The successes and failures encountered by the beginning surgeon during this type of intervention are briefly analyzed. On the example of experience in conducting courses on vitreoretinal surgery on the basis of the Education Center for High Medical Technologies of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan, a methodology for training future specialists is shown, and suggestions are made for further improvement of professional training in this field.
