Possibilities of a multidetector computer tomography (MDCT) angiography of heart and coronary arteries at ambulatory stage of diagnostics of an ischemic heart disease

One of the main pathophysiological processes of forming of an ischemic heart disease is atherosclerosis of coronary arteries. Due to subclinical forms, probable sudden cardiac death and high prevalence, it is important to search for efficient non-invasive techniques of early diagnostics. It would facilitate the timely initiation of medication treatment and correct selection of patients for surgery. This article describes the capabilities and role of multidetector computer tomography (MDCT) of heart and coronary arteries for diagnosing out-patients with ischemic heart disease and demonstrates the technique advantages and disadvantages compared with traditional coronarography (CAG).
