    The purpose — to investigate the rs3025039 polymorphism of the VEGF gene and the concentration of VEGF protein in the blood of women suffering from ovarian endometriosis.

    Material and methods. The research involved a total of 254 participants, with 103 diagnosed with ovarian endometriomas and 151 serving as the control group without endometriomas. Genotyping of the single-nucleotide polymorphism rs3025039 within the VEGF gene was performed using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The expression of the VEGF gene in ovarian tissue was examined in 29 patients of the main group and 31 patients from the control group. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was utilized to assess the concentration of VEGF protein in blood serum.

    Results. The mutant C allele and the CC genotype of the rs3025039 polymorphism in the VEGF gene are linked to an elevated risk of developing ovarian endometriosis. The expression levels of the VEGF gene in endometriomas did not demonstrate significant differences compared to other types of ovarian cysts. However, a notable association was observed between the mutant CC genotype and the presence of endometriomas in the ovaries. Notably, the concentration of VEGF protein in the blood of women with ovarian endometriomas did not differ from that of the control group.

    Conclusion. The study supports the existence of a hereditary predisposition to ovarian endometriosis, with the VEGF gene playing a significant role in this context. The CC genotype was found to be correlated with the expression of the VEGF gene in ovarian tissue. However, the levels of VEGF protein in the blood serum remained unchanged in the presence of ovarian endometriosis.
