Introduction. Enucleation is a serious reconstructive surgery. When performing enucleation, a simultaneous implantation of an orbital implant is necessary for full rehabilitation. Implants made of porous tetrafluoroethylene, silicone implants, allografts of subcutaneous fat of the sole are widely used. According to Filatova I.A. (2001), 7.5-8 thousand patients in Russia annually are in need of removing the eyeball.

Objective ― to analyze the outcomes and peculiarities of implanting different orbital implant inserts in enucleation of the eyeball forming the functioning stump.

Material and methods. We analyzed the outcomes of 56 eyeball enucleations with the implantation of synthetic and biological implants to form the functioning stump. All patients were divided into 3 groups: 20 patients ― orbital implant «Alloplant»; 10 patients ― polymeric endoprosthesis «Reperen-bionic»; 26 patients ― orbital implant insert «Ekoflon».

Results and discussion. The early postoperative period in all patients was uneventful. The mild edema of the conjunctiva and eyelids, the mild pain syndrome when moving the stump were noted. In all groups the conjunctival wound healing was achieved in the regular terms. In the late postoperative period the functioning stump was round-shaped, of optimal volume, with the symmetrical protrusion of the ocular prosthesis regarding fellow eye. The total mobility was high.

Conclusion. When implanting various endoprostheses, intraoperatively modelled according to the size and shape of the orbital cavity after enucleation, the marked inflammation reaction in the orbital tissues was not noted. The probability of graft rejection and denudation decreased. The functioning stump formation ensures high-quality ocular prosthesis, good cosmetic effect and social adaptation of patients with anophthalmia.
