    The purpose — to identify patterns of development of sleep disorders in patients after cerebral stroke, depending on various factors.

    Material and methods. The study involved 143 patients in the early recovery period of cerebral stroke, the average age of patients was 59,6 ± 7,4 years. Among the examined there were 69 men (48,2%) and 74 women (51,8%). With ischemic type of lesion — 62% (89 patients), with hemorrhagic — 38% (54 patients). According to the results of a preliminary survey using a screening rating scale for the subjective characteristics of sleep, patients with insomnia were identified. An objective assessment of the structural features of night sleep was carried out using the polysomnography method.

    Results. When assessing gender differences, a longer latent period of sleep, a period of wakefulness inside sleep was established, the duration of 1, 2 stages of sleep in women was also statistically significantly different from men; according to the results of our study, sleep disturbances were most often recorded in patients with a lesion in the left pool medial cerebral artery — 47% (39 people); patients after ischemic stroke showed more significant changes in the structure of sleep in comparison with patients after hemorrhagic stroke.

    Conclusion. The revealed gender differences in sleep structure are consistent with publications by domestic and foreign scientists about structural disorders and worsening sleep efficiency in women associated with changes in hormonal levels after menopause. The reason for the more significant changes in the organization of sleep structure in patients after ischemic stroke has not been sufficiently studied to date and requires further research in this respect.
