    One of the important functional elements of immune system is the mast cell. The clinical value of mast cells is mainly defined by their role in the development of reactions of immediate hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis. At the same time, the immune mechanism of mast cell degranulation related to IgE is not the only one. A number of diseases contain in their pathogenesis the components determined by mast cells and their non-immune activation, one of which is mastocytosis. The excessive accumulation of mast cells in various body tissues that leads to development of local and systemic clinical symptoms is the cornerstone of this pathology. Diagnostics and assessment of the forecast at this disease are complicated by both the age differences of its course and multi-systemic lesions. The common pathogenetic mechanisms of mastocytosis and allergic diseases form a certain similarity of clinical symptoms of these diseases, which are different in essence. The key aspects of mast cells pathophysiology allow to disclose their role in mastocytosis clinical picture and define the main directions in its diagnostics.
