Parvovirus infection in adults: clinical manifestations and the importance of asymptomatic forms (clinical observation)

Objective ― to present a brief literature review and a clinical case of asymptomatic course of parvovirus B19 infection in a pregnant woman with intrauterine fetal damage.
Material and methods. Literary sources were studied, medical documents were analyzed (ambulatory observation cards and medical histories of in-patients).
Results. A brief literature review on parvovirus infection is presented. Peculiarities of the clinical course of parvovirus infection in adults are investigated. A clinical case of asymptomatic course of parvovirus infection in a pregnant woman with intrauterine fetal damage is presented (development of non-immune hydrops).
Conclusion. The main clinical manifestations of the disease in adults are not specific and this disease is difficult to diagnose. As transplacental transmission from mother to fetus with the development of non-immune fetal hydrops is possible, even under asymptomatic course, it is necessary to raise awareness among doctors about the possible consequences of this infection, and to examine pregnant women who contacted parvovirus B19 infection patients for the early etiological diagnosis of the pathological process.
