The article presents a brief historical sketch of formation and initial stage of development of Kazan school of traumatologists-orthopedicians. Historical roots of the school are shown, which date back to the clinic of hospital surgery of Kazan Imperial University and are connected with Professors N.I. Studenskiy, V.I. Razumovskiy, N.A. Gerken. It is highlighted that succession of traditions is present in the works by the founder of Kazan school, graduate of Kazan Imperial University, Professor M.O. Fridland. The initial stage of Kazan school development are characterized, the biographical sketches of the first Heads during the Soviet period are given.
