The article presents the modern data on the role of intestinal microbiota and probiotics in the development of physiological and pathological processes. The role of probiotics and synbiotics in the treatment of several diseases of the gastrointestinal tract is described. Selection criteria and action mechanisms of synbiotics are discussed.
