Patients with diabetes mellitus have a high chance of developing macular edema in the surgical treatment of cataracts. The use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, in particular drug Nevanak, is pathogenetically justified and contributes to the development of a less pronounced inflammatory reaction in the anterior segment of the eyeball, reducing the risk of macular edema.

Key words: macular edema, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, surgical treatment of cataract.
