New fluid management system for hysteroscopic surgery

Many technical issues and complexities of the operative hysteroscopy and hysteroresection are associated with management of the liquid medium for distention. An operating nurse must observe the filling of the containers with liquid and empty them (connecting the new one) and the overflowing container to collect the liquid (emptying it), as well as the constant task of counting the deficit of the liquid used. The latter is particularly difficult, because there are many factors that distort the data. Containers for liquids can be «underfilled» and «overfilled» up to 10%, the remaining liquid and the liquid on the floor and operational underwear is to be considered as well. One of the principal questions for the surgeon is to achieve good vision in the uterine cavity, which depends on the pressure in the uterine cavity and the flow rate of the liquid. Both the surgeon and the patient are understandably concerned about the possible complications arising due to excessive absorption of liquid used for the stretching of the uterus, and the subsequent development of life-threatening hyponatremia and hypervolemia. A system to manage liquid medium and prevent complications was developed tо addresses these concerns.
