    Purpose ― to update the data on the incidence of myopia and other refractive errors in school-age children and examine the effect of major risk factors on it.

    Patients and methods. Study base: Children’s City Polyclinic №12 in Moscow (Branch 1). A comprehensive ophthalmological examination of pupils of grades 1, 5 and 11 and a retrospective analysis of the primary medical documentation was carried out, followed by mathematical and statistical data processing.

    Results. 1586 school-age children were examined. The proportion of patients with refractive disorders was 24-28%, herewith among pupils of the 1st grade myopia was diagnosed in 2%, it was about 10% in the 5th grade, and 23% in the 11th grade. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system occur in more than 40% of the children enrolled in the study, which also has a negative effect on the development of refractive errors. In this study, there was no direct correlation between the frequency of diagnosis of refractive errors and in-depth training programs, which may be due to the competent organization of ophthalmic care for children in the district.

    Conclusions. The obtained data on the frequency of refractive error, including myopia, in children and adolescents can be used as a basis for planning activities to improve preventive ophthalmic care for named above.
