Purpose. To study the effect of ReLEx® SMILE operation for myopia and myopic astigmatism treatment in adolescents of military age.
Material and methods. SMILE operation was performed on 44 eyes in 22 patients, of them 13 men (59,1%) and 9 women (40,9%), with femtosecond laser «VISUMAX» («Carl Zeiss Meditec») to correct myopia and myopic astigmatism. Observation period was 1 year.
Results. On the next day after SMILE operation all patients had calm and intact-looking anterior segment of eye, while distance visual acuity without correction increased from 0,07±0,06 to 0,96±0,15 and up to the end of the first year increased up to 1,08±0,10 (p<0,001). Effectiveness and safety indices were above 1.0 during the whole observation period.
Conclusion. ReLEx® SMILE technique is a promising modern method of myopia correction in young patients over 18 y.o., with rapid recovery of visual acuity without correction, minimal corneal syndrome and no superficial cornea flap.
Key words: femtosecond laser, VISUMAX, ReLEx® SMILE, lenticels, 18 y.o. patients, myopia, incision, loss of vacuum.
