Purpose. To study the influence of clinical and other pathoplastic factors on the quality of life and social functioning of patients hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital with a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Material and methods. The study involved 100 patients of I.I. Skvortsov-Stepanov Psychiatric Hospital (St. Petersburg), of these 45 men and 55 women. The average age was 39,8±10,3 years. The study of the influence of the clinical manifestations of schizophrenia and the pathoplastic factors on the quality of life and the social functioning of patients was carried out using the following scales and questionnaires: 1) positive and negative syndromes scale «PANSS»; 2) questionnaire «Evaluation of the quality of life of schizophrenic patients under maintenance therapy»; 3) Personal and Social Functioning Assessment Scale «PSP»; 4) Lyusin test of emotional intelligence; 5) questionnaire «Subjective assessment of interpersonal relations»; 6) Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia «BACS»; 7) Dembo-Rubinstein self-assessment technique.
Results. It was established that both the quality of life and social functioning are negatively affected by the female gender and the level of positive symptoms, and positively – by the number of outpatient visits. The general cognitive level has a positive effect only on the quality of life, while age and incomplete education have a negative effect. Only social functioning is positively influenced by the absence of disability, and negatively – by the total number of hospitalizations and the level of negative symptoms.
Conclusion. The data obtained can significantly help in making decisions on how to improve the organization of mental health care.
Key words: schizophrenia, hospital cohort, biopsychosocial model.
