    Objective. To study the medical and social factors in children who died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in the 1st year of life.

    Material and methods. The medical and social anamnesis is compared in three groups of children of the first year of life was compared: the first group ― with sudden infant death syndrome, the second group ― sudden death with a manifested clinic and the third group ― healthy children (control). For the analysis, we developed and used the “Medical and Social Questionnaire for the analysis of medical documentation of a child who died in the first year of life”.

    Results. Differences in aggravation of medical and social risk factors among the studied groups are obtained. In SIDS families women were not registered in antenatal clinic, had short period of breast feeding  (less than 3 months), high and expressed aggravation of medical and social anamnesis, and low financial status. 30% of such mothers smoked, 60% of families were one-parent, and 20% cases the baby was unwanted.

    Conclusion. Children who died suddenly in the first year of life differ in their socio-biological history from children from the control group.
