It is known that the non-pregnant uterus is divided into three sections: the body, the isthmus, and the cervix. As early as in 1907, L. Aschoff demonstrated that the isthmus is an independent section of the uterus. While studying cervical insufficiency, the authors observed two clinical cases that expand its modern definition, making it possible to apply this term outside of pregnancy.
