Cerebrovascular disorders is the main cause of mortality and disability in the modern world. Despite a variety of medical and surgical approaches to the treatment of patients with acute and chronic cerebral ischemia, their efficiency is not always sufficient, therefore, the use of the resources embedded in a human body is of special interest. One of them is the ischemic preconditioning (IPC) ― possibility to increase tolerance to ischemia after reversible cerebral ischemia, leading to structural tissue damage. Such conditions are observed, for example, during transient ischemic attacks. Data about the protective effect of IPC in patients with various forms of cerebrovascular disorders are analyzed in the article. The possibilities of clinical application of PKI is discussed.
Key words: ischemia, cerebral ischemia, ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attack, ischemic preconditioning, treatment.
