Anticipation, probabilistic forecasting and social intelligence in mentally retarded patients were studied. Interaction of these parameters was analyzed, as well as their dependence on IQ indicators and the age of the patients. 65 patients (44 men and 21 women), with the established diagnoses «mild and moderate mental retardation» were examined. The majority of the examined patients showed a reduction in capacity for anticipation (58.5%) and probabilistic forecasting (63.1%). Reliable correlation (p<0.05) between probabilistic forecasting and intelligence decrease is established, that is, the lower intelligence is, the lower the ability to probabilistic forecasting is. However, the reliable correlation between anticipation and intelligence was not stated. The level of social intelligence of the majority of the examined patients (93.8%) was below than average. Reliable correlation (p<0.05) between social intelligence and IQ level and age was established (the older the patients were, the better developed social intelligence they had). The conclusion is made that, in mentally retarded patients, decrease in social intelligence is often combined with the reduced abilities for anticipation and probabilistic forecasting.
Key words: anticipation, probabilistic forecasting, IQ, social intelligence, mental retardation.
