To assess the state of the digestive system and metabolic processes in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), depending on the age of the disease, 70 patients were divided into 3 groups: the 1st group — 22 children with DM duration up to 1 year, the 2nd group — 23 children with duration of the disease from 1 to 5 years, the 3rd group — 25 patients suffering from diabetes more than 5 years. The assessment of complaints, laboratory tests with additional assessment of lipid metabolism, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, ultrasound evaluation of the liver, pancreas and gallbladder was carried out. Complaints from the digestive system appear in children with diabetes early enough — during the first year from the onset of the disease, appearing after one year of illness in 100% of children. With increasing prescription of the disease, the number of children with dyspeptic complaints increases, the severity of pathological changes on the part of the gastrointestinal tract is often-observed — the number of children with catarrhal esophagitis, widespread gastritis, hepatomegaly and signs of diffuse changes in the liver and pancreas as measured by ultrasound grows. The revealed changes are accompanied by an increase in the severity of atherogenic dyslipidemia with a prescription of the disease for more than 5 years.
Key words: children, type 1 diabetes mellitus, gastrointestinal tract, duration of the disease, lipid metabolism, liver condition, pancreas condition.
