Fever is one of the most widely spread symptoms of both infectious and non-infectious diseases in children, and the most frequent causes of a visit to a pediatrician. The algorithm of diagnostic and therapeutic actions of the doctor in such situations is well-developed, but in some cases it does not enable to verify the cause of the state, while the syndrome and/or symptom therapy does not give the desire effect. In this case, the doctor deals with the fever of unknown origin. The article illuminates this problem, presents the literature data on the probable infectious and non-infectious causes of its development, shows the importance of individual approach to the patient’s examination. The algorithm of diagnostic search is presented according to the modern standardized recommendations.

Key words: fever of unknown origin, children, diagnostics algorithm.
