Objective: to improve the quality of providing inpatient surgical care to the population of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Materials and methods. Based on the provided annual reports of surgical services and own data, an assessment and comparative analysis of individual demographic indicators were carried out in comparison with the performance measures of surgical hospitals in districts and cities of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2017.

Conclusion. A fundamentally new strategy for reforming surgical care has been proposed in order to create a single medical space in the Republic of Tatarstan, regardless of territorial and departmental subordination. Rational relation between treatment and diagnostic and economic efficiency should be carried out on the basis of criteria characterizing the multifactorial nature of treatment results, clinical and economic efficiency.
