The article presents the results of using orthopantomography for diagnostic systemic osteoporosis in mental patients. 48 orthopantomograms of mental patients and 52 orthopantomograms of the control group were analyzed. The orthopantomograms of dentitions showed the roentgenologic indices ― gonion index (GI), antegonion index (AI), index of mandibular alveolar bone resorbtion (MI), and mandibular cortical index (MCI). The decrease of the GI, AI and MI indices with the low bone mineral density and damage the cortical bone of mandibular was discovered. In mental patients with osteoporosis the indices of orthopantomography were reliably lower than those of the control group with osteoporosis. It may be feasible to use all orthopantomography indices as preliminary diagnostic indicators of bone mineral density in stomatological practice.

Key words: systemic osteoporosis, mental patients, orthopantomogram, roentgenologic indices.
