Early results of the switching from ranibizumab to aflibercept in 23 patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration are presented. The high clinical efficacy and safety of ranibizumab and aflibercept are shown by the statistically significant (p<0.05) improvement in visual acuity and macular anatomy. The authors have statistically confirmed the longer duration of inhibition of choroidal neovascularization (aflibercept ― 2.91±0.17 months, ranibizumab ― 2.65±0.14 months, p<0.05), the more pronounced decrease of the central thickness of the retina (up to 246.9±12.5 μm and 288.7±18.0 μm, respectively, p<0.05) and the volume of the macula (up to 6.74±0.15 mm3 and 7.14±0.19 mm3, respectively, p<0.05) 4 weeks after intravitreal introduction of aflibercept, which demonstrates the possible benefits of the antiangiogenic drugs changing.
Key words: neovascular («wet») age-related macular degeneration, ranibizumab, aflibercept, switching.
