59 children of 5 to 13 years of age with diabetes mellitus type 1 were examined. Giardiasis was found in 43 children (72.9%), including 15 patients (34.8%) with a high degree of invasion. 41 patients with giardiasis (95.3%) showed endoscopic signs of chronic duodenitis, while 37 children (86.0%) showed signs of Oddi sphincter dysfunction of pancreatic type. The screening for giardiasis should be performed to all patients with diabetes mellitus with dyspeptic syndrome.
