Objective ― to present a clinical case of effective antidepressant therapy of a patient with functional pathology of gastrointestinal tract.
Material and methods. Patient F., female, 38 years old, turned to a gastroenterologist with complaints of heaviness and discomfort in the epigastrium after eating, belching, heartburn.
Results. Organic pathology was excluded after carrying out the necessary diagnostic procedures, and clear association between the onset of symptoms and emotional stress was revealed. Functional dyspepsia was diagnosed, antisecretory therapy was prescribed, but it was ineffective. The patient was consulted by a psychotherapist, individual psychotherapy was provided, and the antidepressant sulpiride (eglonil) was prescribed. During therapy, the patient’s condition returned to normal, all symptoms of functional dyspepsia were stopped.
Conclusion. In patients with functional pathology of the gastrointestinal tract under inefficient antisecretory therapy, antidepressants can be used.
Key words: functional dyspepsia, functional disorders, antidepressant.
