The research objective was to evaluate the hormonal characteristics, including vitamin D status in patients with benign breast diseases (BBD) and different types of coexisting gynecological pathology. A total of 258 women were examined: the study group ― 134 patients with BBD (92 ― diffuse form of fibrocystic breast disease, 42 ― fibroadenoma of the breast), the control group ― 124 healthy women. A comprehensive examination was conducted for all patients, which included physical examination, ultrasound of mammary glands, and digital mammography for the patients of 40 years of age and older. The levels of the circulating form of vitamin D (VD), prolactin, progesterone, thyroid-stimulating hormone were determined in the blood. It was found that there is a high incidence of non-tumorous uterine diseases, low VD supply, increased prolactin level in women with BBD, patients with diffuse form of fibrocystic breast disease also have decreased progesterone level in the age group of 30 years and younger. Significant risk factors for the development of diffuse form of fibrocystic breast disease, according to the logistic regression model, are: VD deficiency, high density of the breast tissue and the presence of concomitant gynecological pathology.

Key words: benign breast diseases, hormonal status, risk factors.
