Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAIT) is a group of organ-specific autoimmune thyropathies caused by a genetically determined defect in immune tolerance to thyroid antigens, resulting in its autoimmune damage. The article presents a clinical case of CAIT in a child aged 2 years and 7 months, which occurred with the absence of specific changes in the thyroid gland structure, a normal level of antibodies to thyropyroxidase (AT to TPO), but a significant increase of antibodies to thyroglobulin (AT to TG), and a late diagnosis of hypothyroidism.
Key words: autoimmune diseases, acquired hypothyroidism, chronic autoimmune thyroiditis.
